Capitol Hill Junior Classic - 2010 7/12/2010 - 7/13/2010
Ryan Benton of Dothan, Ala., fired a 5-under 67 to win the Overall Male title at the 2010 SJGT Capitol Hill Junior Classic. Alex Harrell of Phenix City, Ala., fired a 1-under 71 to win the Overall Female Division. The two-day, 36-hole event was held on the par-72 Senator Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Capitol Hill in Prattville, Ala.
Benton entered the final round tied for the lead after shooting a 72. Ryan, who won last weeks Southern Junior, made birdie on holes 2, 9, 10, 14, 17 and 18 for a final round of 67. Ryan finished with a total of 139 to win the Male 16-19 Division. Hinson Arwood of Thomasville, Ga., and Will Cannon of Hoover finished tied for second with scores of 73-70—143 and 74-69—143, respectively. Arwood took the second-place trophy due to a scorecard playoff.
Harrell was tied for the lead at 77 heading into the final round in the Female 15-19 Division. Alex carded three birdies en route to a final-round 71 for a total of 148 and the win. Carlton Kuhlo of Tallahassee, Fla., finished second with a 77-74—151, while Ashlee Beck of Athens, Ala., had a 81-74—155 to finish third. Ashton Maddaloni of Eclectic, Ala., won the Female 12-14 Division with a 94-90—184, while Sarah Grace Drop of Phenix City was second with a 100-93—193.
In the Male 14-15 Division, Walker Holden of Fairhope, Ala., took the top spot after shooting 78-74—152. Ashton Nix of Auburn and Steven Setterstrom of Mobile finished the even tied for second with identical scores of 78-77—155. Nix took the second-place trophy by virtue of a scorecard playoff.
Alex Green of Point Clear, Ala., took his seventh-straight title in the Male 12-13 Division after finishing first with scores of 69-76—145. Benjamin Shipp of Duluth, Ga., was second with a 74-77—151 and Patrick Martin of Birmingham had a 79-81—160 to finish third.
