Sutton and Murphy Win Ballantrae -- |
Thomas Sutton of Montgomery, Ala., and Mary Alice Murphy of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., were crowned as the Overall Winners at the 2008 SJGT Ballantrae Junior Classic. The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the par-72 Ballantrae Golf Club in Pelham, Ala.
Sutton captured the Male 16-19 Division with rounds of 70 and 71 for a 141 total. Sutton entered the final round two-shots out of the lead. After making a bogey on hole 14, Thomas ran in four straight pars to win by one-shot. His final round 71 included three birdies which helped him win his first SJGT tournament. McLain Leberte of Huntsville, Ala., and Trey Mullinax of Birmingham, Ala. finished tied for second with scores of 70-72142 and 68-74142, respectively. Leberte took the second-place trophy due to a scorecard playoff.
In the Female 15-19 Division, 36 holes were not enough to declare a winner as Murphy (73-76149) made birdie on her last two holes to force a playoff with Caitlin Watts (76-73149) of LaGrange, Ga. Murphy won the playoff on the first hole with a birdie for second SJGT win in a row. Watts took second and Kimberly Graff of Lilburn, Ga., was third with a 78-72150.
Grant Cagle of Gainesville, Ga., won the Male 14-15 Division after shooting 73-72145 for his first SJGT win. Major Lee of Montgomery finished second with a 71-77148. Davis Henson (77-75152) of Vestavia Hills, Ala., and Brendon Caballero (75-77152) of Brentwood, Tenn., tied for third. Henson took the third-place trophy due to a scorecard playoff.
Jordan Knight of Simpsonville, S.C., notched her second consecutive Female 12-14 Division win by carding an 87-84171. Sarahanne Vaughan of Auburn, Ala., was second with a 91-88179 and Carolyn McCalley of Birmingham finished third with a 97-92189.
In the Male 12-13 Division, Birmingham native Dalton Skinner had rounds of 72-75147 to capture the win. Jacob Harper of Valley, Ala., finished second with a 73-75148 and Daniel Kim of Kennesaw, Ga., had a 71-82153, good enough for third.

Wright and Pellicano are the leaders after round one at Fallen Oak -- |
Kendall Wright of Suwanee, Georgia and Ashton Pellicano of Albany, Georgia lead after round one at the Fallen Oak Junior Classic. Fallen Oak is located in Saucier, Mississippi, which is just north of Biloxi. The Tom Fazio designed Fallen Oak is a superb course that has received rave reviews from players and parents. The SJGT is fortunate to conduct a tournament on such a great course.
Wrights 74 leads the Female 15-19 division. There is a three-way tie for second in this division. Abby Johnson of Braselton, Georgia, Amanda de la Cruz and Kristen Golightly, both from Pensacola, Florida, all shot 79 in round one.
Pellicano was the only player in the field to break par. His one under 71 leads the Male 16-19 division. Will Jones of Rome, Georgia is two shots back with a 73. Bert Watson rounds out the top three in this division with a 74.
The Male 14-15 division is led by Jordin Corchis of nearby Ocean Springs. Corchis shot 76 in round one and leads by four shots over Tolver Dozier of Dothan, Alabama. Third place belongs to Wheaton Hall of Springfield, Georgia, who shot 81.
Gabi Oubre of Mobile, Alabama continues her fine play and leads the Female 12-14 division with a 77. She qualified for the US Girls Junior earlier this week at the Grand Bear Club in Biloxi. Carlton Kuhlo of Tallahassee, Florida is in second place with 78. Emily Ross of Diamondhead, Mississippi is in third with a 90.
The leader of the Male 12-13 division is Jordins brother, Nathan Corchis. He had a 94 in round one.
The final round begins tomorrow at 8:00 AM CST.
