2010 Nike Cup --
The 2010 Nike Cup is just around the corner and there are only two events left to earn a spot on the SJGT team. Those two events are the Capitol Hill Junior Classic and the Ross Bridge Junior Classic. The Nike Cup is a Ryder Cup style event that matches the tip junior golfers from the SJGT against those from Georgia’s Cannongate Junior Tour. The SJGT team is made up of top performers in SJGT events that are played on Robert Trent Jones courses. The 2010 Nike Cup will be played on Labor Day weekend at RTJ Trail’s Capitol Hill in Prattville, Alabama.

The SJGT will feature 25 players, who will be invited to participate based on points that were earned at events played at the RTJ courses this year. The 25 spots will be broken down as follows:
Top 6 – Female Players (12-19)
Top 4 – Male 12-13 Players
Top 7 – Male 14-15 Players
Top 8 – Male 16-19 Players

As of July 29, 2010, the Points leaders for the SJGT team spots are:

Tie breaker for the team spots will be based on the final 36-hole tournament scores that a player posts. If that is tied, we will revert to the last round of that event and then finally to the last nine holes and so on following the tie breaking system in the USGA Rules of Golf. ***Note*** If both players are present at the final event and there is a tie to see who makes the team, we will have a sudden death playoff to determine the last spot on the team.

If you have played an SJGT event at a RTJ course this year and are curious about you position on the points list, please call our office.

Arwood and Mitchell Take Jekyll Island Titles --
Overall Champions Katie Mitchell and Hinson Arwood
Hinson Arwood of Thomasville, Georgia and Katie Mitchell of Fernandina Beach, Florida were crowned as the overall champions of the SJGT Jekyll Island Junior Classic. The event was held July 26-27 on the Oleander course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia. The narrow fairways and small greens on the par-72 layout provided a good test for the field.

Arwood carded rounds of 74 and 73 to claim the Male 16-19 division. Zachary Bryant of Buckhead, Georgia was second in the division with 75-73. Bradley Bynum of Valdosta and Ben Bishop of St. Simons Island, Georgia tied for third with 149 totals. Bynum took the third place award through a scorecard playoff.

Mitchell won her second consecutive Female 15-19 division with rounds of 71 and 74. She won the previous week at Ross Bridge. Elizabeth Kim of Martinez, Georgia claimed second place in the division with 75-72. Haley Austin of McDonough, Georgia rounded out the top three in the division with 78-74.

Former SJGT Member Bobby Wyatt Fires 57 at Alabama State Junior Championship --
Bobby Wyatt
Former SJGT player Bobby Wyatt fired a 14-under-par 57 (26-31) at the 2010 Alabama Golf Association’s State Boys Junior Championship which is being held at the par-71 Country Club of Mobile.

Wyatt’s round, which included 12 birdies, an eagle and five pars, is quite possibly the lowest competitive round ever recorded.

Bobby, who will play golf at the University of Alabama starting this fall, has won the AGA’s State Junior the past three years. Bobby also had tremendous success on the SJGT as well, winning 18 events during his career. Some of those wins included the Tournament of Champions (2005), Southern Junior (2005 & 2006), Brad Willis Memorial (2005), Camp Creek (2006), Vestavia (2006 & 2007) and Craft Farms (2009).

Congratulations Bobby!
