| Overall Champions Michael Garretson and Carrie Metz |
Michael Garretson of Acworth, Georgia and Carrie Metz of Carnesville, Georgia were crowned as the overall champions at the Highland Oaks Junior Classic. The event was held March 6-7 at the Robert Trent Jones Trail’s Highland Oaks course in Dothan, Alabama. Garretson fired rounds of 76 and 72 to take the Male title, while Metz shot 73-74 for the Female title. The field of 84 players was welcomed with mild and sunny conditions, a first for the SJGT schedule this year.
Garretson four over total was good enough for a one shot victory over two golfers in the Male 16-19 division. Trey Mullinax of Mt. Olive, Alabama and Zachary Hughes of Mobile, Alabama each had 149 totals. Mullinax took the second place award through a scorecard playoff, while Hughes took third.
Metz breezed to an 11 shot lead in the Female 15-19 division. Bailey Gray of Springville, Alabama was second with 82-76. Third place in the division went to Carlton Kuhlo (80-79) of Tallahassee, Florida.
The Male 14-15 division needed extra holes to determine a winner. Garrett Marschke of Suwanee, Georgia and local player Ryan Benton were deadlocked at 152 after 36 holes. Both players had impressive comebacks in round two. Marschke improved 14 shots (83-69), while Benton fired 72 in round two after an 80 in round one. Marschke won on the third playoff hole. Trevor Smith of Newnan, Georgia finished third with 79-75.
Alex Green of Mobile, Alabama was the champion of the Male 12-13 division after rounds of 83-75. Nicholas Mineo (74-87) of Cumming, Georgia was second in the division. Wells Hooper of Montgomery, Alabama rounded out the top three in the division with 84-81.
